A campus adapted to support local biodiversity
Following a biodiversity survey carried out by the Pic Vert association on the Sidas World campus in Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, a biodiversity support program was proposed and quickly implemented.
Measures to support biodiversity
To make the campus a more welcoming environment for local ecosystems, several initiatives have been introduced:
- Nest boxes for tits, sparrows and common redstarts, a bat box, and a nesting box specially designed for the common kestrel have been installed on the roof of the Basecamp.
- Vertical surfaces, such as fences, have been planted with climbing plants to increase green coverage.
- A native hedgerow has been planted along Building B, providing shelter and habitat for a wide variety of species.

- Wildlife passages have been created at strategic locations to allow animals such as hedgehogs to safely cross fences, while some obsolete fences have been removed.

- An escape ramp has been installed in the stormwater retention basin, enabling wildlife, particularly amphibians, to climb out safely.

- A pond has been created alongside Building A to provide a valuable habitat and help maintain ecological balance for numerous species.

New information panels
To complement these biodiversity projects, new information panels have been installed across campus.
Made from PEFC-certified Douglas fir (with at least 70% of the wood sourced from sustainably managed forests), these panels inform visitors and employees about the biodiversity measures implemented by the Sidas World.
On the reverse side of the main panel, located between the Basecamp and Building C, the Foundation’s environmental commitments are also highlighted:
- Preserving and restoring wetlands and peatlands.
- Restoring degraded forests and supporting their adaptation to environmental change.
- Protecting threatened biodiversity and improving ecological connectivity.
- Supporting educational initiatives and applied research projects.
The panels were produced by the French company Pic Bois, which is certified to ISO 14001 and PEFC standards and has received the French Ministry of the Environment’s Business and Environment Award.
