Aurélien Sanchez beats the Pacific Crest Trail record
By covering 4,149 km and 135,776 m of elevation gain in 45 days, 20 hours, and 15 minutes, the Frenchman set the fastest time on the trail that runs through the American West, connecting the Mexican border to the Canadian border.
After setting the record, Aurélien spoke to French sports media outlet L’Équipe, sharing the difficulties he faced on the trail. The route was particularly affected by harsh weather conditions and wildfires that ravaged parts of the trail.
“And the trail—I didn’t expect it to be that difficult. It has deteriorated over the years because of wildfires, with fallen trees everywhere… The trail is badly damaged for hundreds of kilometers in Northern California.” - David Michel, L’Équipe
The new Fastest Known Time
Despite the logistical, weather-related, and physical challenges, the SIDAS athlete managed to beat the previous record, held by Belgian Karel Sabbe (46 days, 12 hours, and 50 minutes), by 16 hours and 35 minutes.
Such an adventure would not have been possible without his partner, Lucille, and his best friend, Martin, who supported him throughout the entire journey.
We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside Aurélien on this unforgettable journey.
